Join the ‘Make it work for you’ workshop on Tuesday 21 June.

In the workshop, we can cover:

How to make text larger, so it is easier to read
How to set up Siri so your iPad will talk to you
How to set up other spoken content features, like dictation (so your iPad will write for you)
Q&A with our experienced trainer

This workshop will take place with a Family Fund team member and trainer at the Library at the Lightbox, 1 The Glass Works, Barnsley, S70 1GW.

Our team consists of qualified specialist teachers, specialist teaching assistants, habilitaton officers and curriculum support staff. Our focus is to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people with a vision impairment. We aim to provide ongoing support to enable each young person to reach their potential, and develop skills to become independent adults who are included in all aspects of their community. We aim to ensure support is given to families, and work with educational settings to ensure that all children and young people have access to, and are fully included in all aspects of curriculum.

brainstrust is a brain tumour charity that focuses on support and wellbeing. Little brainstrust is designed for children and teenagers living with a brain tumour diagnosis. Our support specialist for children and families is based in Sussex however has a national role. 500 children a year are diagnosed with a brain tumour, and there are thousands of families living with a brain tumour. Two thirds of children diagnosed with a brain tumour are left with a disability. Families can find communication difficult, and awareness of brain tumours in children is low; this is even though brain tumours now kill more children than any other illness in the UK. We are actively trying to grow clinical links with hospitals and other charities locally and nationally, so that we can collectively work together to provide optimum care to our young patients. Families facing a brain tumour diagnosis of a child feel scared, confused and alone. We know. A charity created by two sets of parents who had children with childhood cancer who fell through the funding gap of support from their local authority and the NHS. The charity was created to help through four themes of support, two to support positive mental health and two financial grants to support children and their families. The mental health support encompasses one to one counselling and play therapies at our specialist centre in Halifax for children 6-17. Respite breaks are also available at one of the charity’s two holiday homes in Skegness. Financial support is available for children in hospital for a prolonged period through our Hospital Stay Grant, a one of award to help cover petrol, parking and extras such as comics, magazines, arts and crafts for the child while an in-patient. Our 50:50 Grant helps to cover half the cost of medical equipment and therapies. All support options are subject to the charity’s terms and conditions and subject to final approval of awards from the Trustees, except counselling and play therapies which is discussed through a free initial assessment.
