NeurodiverCity Sheffield

Previously known as the ADHD project, NeurodiverCity Sheffield provide support for families in Sheffield who are living with neurdivergence.

They host drop-in cafes all across the city where parents can chat to professionals and other parents to receive advice on a range of topics such as medication, benefits and education

Vision Support Service Sheffield City Council

We are an educational support service for visually impaired children and young people from 0-25. Our team consists of qualified specialist teachers, specialist teaching assistants, habilitaton officers and curriculum support staff. Our focus is to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people with a vision impairment. We aim to provide ongoing support to enable each young person to reach their potential, and develop skills to become independent adults who are included in all aspects of their community. We aim to ensure support is given to families, and work with educational settings to ensure that all children and young people have access to, and are fully included in all aspects of curriculum.

Harry’s Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust

A small user-led charity which makes life better for children with hydrocephalus (known as water on the brain) and the families who love and care for them. We deliver : Awareness: Every year 1 in 770 babies will be diagnosed with hydrocephalus, yet there is little awareness of the condition and its impact. We are working to change this through targeted awareness raising. Support: We direct families affected by hydrocephalus to organisations that can offer help. We also provide peer-to-peer support, so families feel less alone and can meet others from within their community who are going through the same. Campaigns Through our ‘Get-A-Head’ campaign, we speak up for better awareness of infant head circumference measurement as a tool for early diagnosis of hydrocephalus. Research and training We support research and fund training. This improves understanding of the condition and its management amongst front-line health care professionals, which improves patient care.

Sheffield Volunteering, as part of the University of Sheffield Students’ Union, encourages and enables University of Sheffield students to engage with local communities. We work closely with local voluntary, charitable and social organisations in Sheffield and South Yorkshire to increase the involvement of student volunteers in the city and region, and strengthen their connection with communities. If you are a local charitable organisation and would like to recruit student volunteers, please get in touch. We can help you to promote regular volunteering opportunities or one-off activities.
